crankset question

hi, i,m planning to get a new crankset with BB, but dont know what size BB i should get for my bike. The set up i have right now is 8 speed drivetrain, would a 9 speed crankset work for my bike? What size BB should i get for my bike?

The crankset basically drives what bottom bracket you need.

The crank determines the BB
Yes 9spd will work fine

thanks for your reply my bike is a 1996 giant cadex cfm3 the chainline is 49mm, 73mm shell width, and i am going to get a race face next lp crankset.
