So do I need new shoes now?

I just bought new egg beater pedals. Before them I had some cheapo nashbar pedals that I had some trouble with, one screw kept coming out and then I was stuck in the pedal for quite some time (it wasn't funny then). So I bought some longer screws and really tightened them down. Now I can't get that screw out. I drilled the head of the screw and pried off the cleat off thinking that I'll cut the screw off and put the new cleats in the other holes. After that ordeal, I found out that I can't fit a hacksaw to cut the screw off. Any suggestions?

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Use a small grinding bit to take off the part of the screw that is still sticking up. However this will only be of any use if you can use the other screw holes for your new cleats. Maybe the screw was stuck because the thread didnt match. Another approach would be to try and take out the plate that the screws go into, from the inside of the shoe.

you can also use a easy out, or a screw extractor, Sears sells them both and they work well enough... I think the Sears screw extractors may work better, With an easy out you have to drill into the screw, preferably in the centre, then twist the easy out in, counter clockwise, it has reversed taperd threads, theese will bind in the hole you drilled, and hopefully back the screw out!
