Specialized Hemisphere tires=BAD

Well I got my 3rd and 4th flats with the Hemisphere Armadillos. I'm disgusted right now.
I have put thousands of miles on $14.00 Tioga city slickers with out a single flat and these $30.00 skins have had 4 flats in the last month or so. I was actually able to identify the reason for the 3rd flat... a small piece of beer bottle glass went right through the tread and pierced the tube. I think that the reason for this is the tread itself. The nimbus armadillo on the front has never flatted.
Specialized is getting a call on these tomorrow.
I did get in 50 miles today. Nice riding against a heck of a wind FIRST and then get pushed for 25 miles.

I don't have any experience with the Hemisphere but I KNOW that the Nimbus EX's are fine tires & and would imagine that that would carry on to the Armadillo version (as it's the next model up).

I had a bunch of flats when I first got my most recent bike, and now I havent got a flat since. Just because YOU had problems dosent mean its a bad tire....its probably your fault that your getting flats and how could you expect it to be totally safe when riding over glass and crap. I saw you submitted a negative review about these tires on mtbr also....geeze.

uhhhhh yeah, it's my fault.
Here is what specialized has to say about their tire:

"Armadillo

Race Across America (RAAM) two time winner and 6 podium positions. Our most flat resistant tire with bead to bead flat protection. Co-developed with engineers from DuPont«, the next-generation Specialized Armadillo tire family combines the smooth, long-wearing ride of a performance tire with three proven flat-protection technologies.

A DuPont aramid subtread barrier provides bead-to-bead protection. A second aramid barrier impregnated with an aramid-engineered elastomer seals all gaps in the fabric weave. Finally, a new synthetic cap ply material uses a lightweight version of the latest offroad motorcycle racing technology to prevent sidewall cuts. The result is the most effective flat-prevention technology on the market. Available in both Mountain, Road, BMX and Ergo/RTB versions. Just look for the Armadillo Icon."

And yet my Tiogas have NEVER flatted. On the EXACT same commute, day after day. Maybe I should just hang the bike up and drive?????
OF COURSE I LEFT A NEGATIVE REVIEW AT MTBR. That's what the website is for... see, if you have an experience with an item you then leave a review... I had a terrible experience with the Hemishperes and thus left a suiting review. Why do you have a problem with that?????

You know, I've put thousands of miles on Armadillo tyres, and haven't had a single puncture yet. However, one of my early purchases of Specialized tyres was a problem, due to poor quality control.
From what you've described, it sounds like you may have a stray thread of kevlar/aramid fibre sticking out from the casing. The stuff is great for preventing punctures, but a stray thread is very abrasive, and has been known to actually cause a puncture.

Well I called Specialized. The tech guy I spoke with indicated that my experience with the hemispheres wasn't a fluke. I told him the whole story and he completely agreed with my assesment of the situation. He agreed to take them back and said the Nimbus, which I have on the front would work fine on the back for touring. offered a free exchange.

My sentiments exactly. I'm going to close this thread, since the only thing people here seem interested in is childish insults. Any questions PM me.
