Tire Direction

Does anyone know if the Continental Ultra Gator Skins have to be installed in a certain direction?

There is an arrow (blends in nicely with the tire so you have to look carefully) that shows the direction. Not sure if it makes any difference...

Yes. The arrow is on one side and one side only, with the word (I think) Rotation, and as aadhills says, it's darned hard to find. And likewise, I'm not sure it makes any difference.

It's funny, I installed some of those tires last Friday night on a friend's bike for a century on Saturday morning, and I had a heckuva time seeing if there was a rotation arrow. Finally found it, like the others said, it's only on one side and almost invisible. They seem to be excellent tires, btw-

Since you asked in both forums, I'll answer in this forum as well for the other readers.

I have the tires you are asking about. And they are marked as to which direction they should be mounted. Because of the pattern printed on the sidewall, it is hard to see.

You can find the rotation direction on ONE side of the tire, 15 inches to the right of the word Continental.

I think that the one reason rotation is marked is so you will always mount the tire in the same direction after repairing flats, or truing the wheel, etc. But may also have to do with the way the tire is constructed.

No.

And neither does any tire that is ridden primarily on pavement.

I was never able to find that arrow until now. My tires were mounted backwards. It makes a difference to me. I just finished turning them around. It's also important to me that the valve be centered on the label. Pride of workmanship and attention to detail? Anal retentiveness? Whatever, it matters to me.

I agree. Heck, if the manufacturer goes to the trouble of putting a rotation arrow on the tire, I'll go along with it. Besides, it's kinda fun to look for it, especially on one so hard to find as the one on the Conti Ultra Gator Skins-
