Easton seatpost feedback
 

I am looking for a seatpost with a little more setback than my Thomson. The Tomson is a fabulous seatpost and I really don't know if the is an equal replacement either. So here goes, I was thinking about an Easton EA70. The reviews on MTB Reviews were all over the place. They either raved about or swore at it.

Nothing in the middle, which was strange. Anyone here have any actual experience or comments? If you hated it please tell why. I am putting it on a road bike, so it should see mostly easy miles.

I have two EA70s on mountain bikes, and I've always liked them. Eventually I plan to put one on my fast bike as well, but I'm too cheap to buy one at the moment.

I have the EA70 on my Salsa Las Cruces (cross bike), which I mostly ride on fire/access roads and throughout the city (rough roads of Pittsburgh). My only complaint is that after 1 year of use with some occasional adjustments, the clear coat is pretty scraped up. It is not flaking off nor is it worn to the point of fibers showing through, but nonetheless it looks used. Having paid $0 for the post, I have no complaints.

As for the comfort of the post, I have not a clue if the carbon fiber absorbs dampens the bumps than my other posts. I found that the biggest change in comfort arrived when I purchased a new seat.

Any other specific questions?

In the well documented forum tradition of addressing a question you didn't ask, which Thompson seatpost do you have? If it's the straight model, have you consedered the "setback" version? If you already have the setback post and the setback isn't enough, forget I asked.

i've used an ea70 for a couple years and like it's simple one bolt design. it's on my cross bike and gets hammered with mounting/dismounting and general abuse. i haven't read the reviews but i can't imagine what problems people have had. i like it. i have a cheaper ea50 on another bike too and it's also a great post.
easton has mixed up their offering this year with some of the posts redesigned with less setback and a 2 bolt head (why?).

i use the EA50 and it gives you more setback than any other post that in could find (i think 1.25"). i use a non-conventional saddle (spiderflex) and i need lots of setback and still the saddle's rails are nearly maxed too.

nary a problem with this seatpost. it works very well.
