Newbie Question: What sounds are normal?
As a newbie, I'd like to hear from people regarding what sounds are "normal" for a bike to make. For instance, when you spin the back tire backwards, you get a light ticking sound. I believe this is normal. However, when I am just riding along, I can also hear a similar ticking sound. Is this normal? My bike, by the way, is a Giant FCR2.
Thanks for any input!

Most geared bikes make a clicking sound when coasting. Some click louder than others. Ideally that, and maybe a little tire noise are it.

The clicking is the ratchet mechanism, called a freehub, that lets you coast without the pedals turning. You won't hear it when pedalling as the mechanism is engaged and driving the bike forward.
