Cantilever Adjustment
 

I have a cyclocross frame with 105 levers and deore lx cantilever brakes. I am having the hardest time getting braking power out of this setup. I have new ritchey pads, and I'm trying to adjust them for max power. There are so many planes of adjustment for cantilevers, I can't figure out the best positioning. Does anyone have any good suggestions for me?

You can increase the power by making the straddle cable cross over closer to the wheel. To do this you will have to use a single straddle cable that crosses from one brake arm to the other with a hanger on the cable from the brake lever.

not really.

what I did to get some extra power out of my cantis was to use compressionless brake cable housing ( like the delta aztec housing), and then also moving the brake pads very close to the rim. when this is the case, the cantis look squashed and spread out, but you get maximum mech advantage, and therefore power.

the only problem with this is that if your wheels are out of true, the pads could rub, and that is very annoying.
