I've been able to re-wrap Cinelli black cork if I re-do it right away and if I remove it slowly.
This stuff has lasted several years and several thousand miles compared to other types that last only one year.

Deda synthetic tape has a very mild backing stripe in the center. You can rewrap it all day long.

Let me be the first to mention Fizik Microtex tape. That stuff is the grippiest bar tape that I've ever tried. Wet, dry, sweaty, you won't slip off.

Just shows what you know, I just wrapped my first set of bars, and made it all the way through. Yep, wrapped and caped and everything in one go with the beautiful Cinelli Cork with the backing on it. And I will not be unwrapping half of it to get it right!

Nope, since I wrapped the wrong way (top to bottom) and it try's to peel when I ride, I'll be unwrapping the whole thing.

DOH!!!!!

That being said, I do like the way it feels and the way it looks, so I'll probably be doing it again with another roll of the exact same thing.

Yup. The adhesive is actually a double stick tape so, if you're careful, you can peel it completely off if you like.

Salsa Classico is nice; kind of like cloth:

I fill the extra groove with shoe goo prior to wraping the bars:

x2

Looks good, feels good, but it is difficult to apply well as it does have a very tacky adhesive strip and will tear if not handled carefully if you need to unwrap it. Not one for beginner wrappers really.

The tip here is to get your shop to fit it as the onus is on them to do it right and they can only charge you once even if they stuff it up ( and a good one only stuffs up once).

Does Profile still make bar tape? Their synthetic cork was pretty nice, too, although it ripped more easily than Cinelli cork.

That stuff is very spendy, and I am not so sure that it would look nice after a few months of use.

It isn't squishy, just compliant enough to be comfortable and absorb vibration. I would assume that the gel would help prevent numbness and tingling but I don't know that for a fact.

I recently got some Bontrager and loved it. No road vibe, and a great feel. Cork also kicks butt, the Nashbar stuff is great! Put some on my Super Sport project with moustache bars. Great feel and thick.,,,BD

+1 on the cotton tape. Thats what I have used on my last 2 bars and I probably won't go back. It keeps my hands from getting too sweaty and gives a nice compromise between grip and softness. I haven't found any need for padding (or gloves for that matter) if I take some time adjusting my saddle and bars. But thats just me. Natural cork is nice too... but it tends to look dirty after only a few good rides.

I don't know why the Borg would know anything about bar tape, but I recommend you use the Pyramid or Summit brand from your LBS. It's cork and is not self-adhesive. I love the stuff. Also, check out the instructions at https://www.parktool.com.

i used Deda tape on all my bikes, its just the best i've tried and it looks very classy when wrapped correctly. I tried Stella Azzura tape in white, but it looked god awful (although it was very comfortable)

That tape is on there every bit as good as one with electrical tape all over the end. There is reversed electrical tape under the bar tape, you have to cut and scrape for a while to remove it.

How do you keep the exposed tape edge from rolling up as your hand slides naturally towards the hoods?....BD

Just saying it would drive me nuts, that's all.
