    Threaded Fork Threadless Headset/Stem

So I have a 1" fork thats pretty decent but it has trashed threads. If I were to install it on a bike with a threadless headset and clamp a threadless stem to it and ride it...will I die?

Not a good idea unless the fork is so ridiculously long that you could cut the threaded portion off and still have it long enough to use. The threaded part of the steer tub is significantly weaker than the unthreaded part, and you should not clamp a stem to it. Frustrating, ain't it?

The better choice is to clean up the threads. A bike shop with a fork-chasing die can probably do this. It's amazing what kind of damaged threads can be cleaned up with a good set of taps and dies...

Ah too bad. What happened to the threads to screw 'em up so badly? External threads on a big steel tube are pretty hard to damage...

I think the fork was just defective? I got it from chucksbikes and never examined it too hard. Its been too long or I would try returning it.
