Hole in top tube?

Question for you all:

I've come across a bike with a small hole on the underside of the top tube, maybe 4-6 inches from the seatpost cluster. It's more or less round, and is about 4mm in diameter. If the hole happens to be from water inside the frame rusting it out (I don't know that this is the case, just a guess), is it an indicator that the rest of the frame is junked, too?

I don't actually have the bike -- it's for sale, and I'm curious about whether it's even ridable.

What kind of bike is it? It could just be the hole for internal cable routing.

My opinion would be to inspect the hole and see if it were drilled in, if it was drilled it will have nice 'square' edges, if it's a rust hole, the metal will be thin at the hole and get thicker as you move away from it.
>NORMALLY< rust will start at the lowest point on a tube, seldom right in the middle, though on a top tube like that, if it's double butted, the center is lower then the ends if the top tube sits level.

drilled means it's likely fine, rust, means it would likely be best to move on.

Could the hole be from a cable housing connector that snaps in there? I can't tell from the pics how front brake and shifting cables are routed.

i seriously doubt that the hole is for a cable routing... since it looks like it enters straight into the tube and not at an angle that would allow the cable to be easily run and operate smoothly...

i suspect someone drilled the hole... although i have no idea why someone would do that...

personaly i dont think i would trust riding it

It kinda looks like a vent hole for when it was brazed together. I dont know why they would do that since usually the vent hole is in the headtube.
