problems with pedal bearings

I'm pretty new to bike maintnence but not so new to biking itself. I decided today to cut some partially destroyed plastic off my obviously crappy pedals which have decreased in size and weight by about 50% since I got the bike.

However when it came time to put them back together the outside set of bearings kept popping out. What am I doing wrong?

What you are doing wrong is trying to rebuild cheap pedals.

Unless the bike is a POS the pedals are meant to last through the test ride; then you replace them with something that works well.

rmfnla I could agree with you, however I don't have alot of money to replace these things, I was thinking about fabricating some reinforcement for my pedals but not much point in that if I can't figure out how to put the things back together

the bike itself isn't really amazing but its not slow either. paid $12 for it I will admit, it weighs 30-40lbs I'm guessing, 18 speed, shimano sis shifters, shimano v brakes. It shifts gears about as well as a ferrari enzo when you tune it just right, the bad thing is it tends to retune itself to not do so well. I should prolly get some new cables for the shifters and invest in a better seat and pedals. Not to mention my wheels are badly bent from the previous owners abuse of it. Worth replacing things? I don't know. Worth a bit of my free time rebuilding? I believe so. Worth using? heck yeah.

peripatetic I'll get some pics tommorow or something
