Nexus 8 Speed Hub and Friction Shifting

Has anyone ever tried it? What reasons might there be not to do it?

Thanks,

yes people have tried it. Reasons not to:

1) It doesn't work reliably. Internally geared hubs are much more sensitive about proper indexing than derailleurs. You'll experience a lot of slipping and grinding.

2) You can and/or will cause excessive wear. The noise and problems mentioned above are a good sign that there is damage being done.
