Problems with my Chainring Shimano Biopace SG

Hello,
I have an old Giant Terrago and few weeks ago I started to have problems with the middle chainring. Some of the chainring teeth are very worn out and the chain skips.
The chainring that I have is a Shimano Biopace SG 48B/38/28 and unfortunately we don't have any bicycle repair shops in the Turks & Caicos Islands and I don't know what to do.
I know they don't make the Shimano Biopace SG anymore but what will be the best option for replacing this one?
Thanks for all your help
David

Need more information, what exactly is the problem with your chainring, it could be fixable which would be the best option if your looking to keep your current crankset.

There are NOS Biopace chainrings to be found. You will need to learn how to disassemble the cranks and remove the center ring to replace with same. But I'd suggest you look for a new crankset altogether. The hunt for such from where you are may prove more difficult than replacing the entire crankset. If the chain is skipping on bad teeth in the ring, I'd imagine the chain and freewheel and likely in need of replacement, too.

If you have no bike shops, you would likely need to purchase specialized bicycle-tools to accomplish this. And learn mechanics. Now this is getting expensive fast. I could tell you that a new bike might be the way to go - but you'd still need to assemble it correctly. So I will suggest you study the following two sites - for starters:

https://www.parktool.com/repair/

And:

https://bicycletutor.com/

You might want to organize those who have bikes there to come in with you. Form a Co-op to get tools and supplies. They are likely in the same fix with their bikes. Do you have a community website where you can write up a proposal for those with bikes? This may be quite the project. And I wish you luck and success.
