Spoke length calculation help, please!
So I hastily purchased a rear track hub on eBay the other day, thinking I'd just use some spare spokes I had. But then I realized my spare spokes were laced to a low flange hub and the new hub is high flange. So now I need to buy some spokes to lace this beast up, but problem is I can't find any specs on the internet for the hub's measurements. The hub is just a ****ty 36 hole rear track hub made by Dimension and I will be lacing it to a 700c Mavic MA40 with a standard 3x pattern. Is there a fairly standard spoke length for lacing high flange hubs like this? Or maybe someone knows a way to calculate the flange diameter and center to flange distances so that I can buy the right length spokes?
Here's the same hub I bought: http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...&category=1701 |

Yeah, I already found out how to calculate the necessary spoke lengths, but I can't perform the calculation without knowing measurements of the hub. I need to know the best way to approximate (if it comes to that) the length of the spokes I need. Thanks for the link, though.

i've used a ruler (metric) to get the dimensions close...

Oh, sick. That's the answer I was looking to hear! Did the spokes lace up properly once you built the wheel?
|
they did...none of my old hubs are listed in the online calculators, so I need to measure. granted, I had my LBS doublecheck on my first attempt.
the hard part is the rim, being so big...also, you need to allow for the spoke-nipple. do all the measurements...then do it again (measure twice, cut once) |
Awesome. I was worried I wouldn't be able to use the hub, haha. Thanks for the help!

good luck!

I got the hub dimensions from QBP website but they didn't have a MA40 rim listed.
Hub flange diameter = 62mm both sides. Hub center to flange = 28mm both sides. Incidentally, with a Mavic MA3 rim the spoke length is 290mm for both sides. |
You are a god! I know an online calculator that has the MA40 just to make sure the 290mm spokes will work. Thanks a million, Grouch!
