brake pads issue

Hello guys, have a happy new year, not only on your bikes i hope..
I've been trying for hours to remove worn out brakepads (ultegra, rear brake) but the damn thing won't slide an inch! First time i'm facing such a stubborn s$$t. Bottomline is i'm grubing it to chips with a screwdriver and can't figure out how scorched it's ended up. Any better ideas? Thanks, regards.

Have you removed/untightened the screw?
Just making sure!

Are these insert pads that slip into (and out of) pad holders or are they the older design where the pads and its holder are one bonded assembly and replaced as a complete unit? You may be trying to disassemble something that isn't supposed to be.
