Road bike front derailleur question
I have a 2005 Cannondale Ironman 800 (link below) with a Shimano 105 front derailleur. I have been offered a Dura-Ace FD-7700 clamp on front derailleur. The seat post on my bike is flat/wide. Will the Dura-Ace part work? Also what is a "braze-on" front derailleur?
I'm new with this stuff. Thanks in advance for any insight!

A braze on FD does not have the band that clamps around the tube. It either bolts onto a bracket brazed to the bike or to a band on clamp you buy separately. I like them because they offer the most flexibility when moving them between bikes with different tube diameters (just buy the appropriate clamp).
If the one you are being offered is a clamp on I don't think it will work with your frame. Don't expect any big performance jumps, though, one way or another. It will be slightly lighter and that is about all, as the FD is not a very high tech bit (it just is a metal plate that shoves the chain). In fact, if you currently have no complaints with your current FD, I wouldn't bother. Installation and adjustment of those things can be a bear.

By looking at the link you provided, you have a braze-on FD. I doubt the clamp on will work because of your tube shape.
