shimano 8 speed 105 sti shifters

Does or did Shimano make 105 sti shifters ? I just bought a set of 105 shifters that I was told was 8 speed. He said they cliked 8 times. If not I was going to go the speed later anyway.
Thanks

Shimano did indeed make 8 speed 105 shifters, but if your right shifter clicks 8 times that means it is 9 speed.
