Nokian W106 and rim width question
I posted this in the winter biking section but thought I should also try here in the mech section:
Wondering about mounting Nokian W106 studded tires on road rims and how wide the rims need to be to run them without problems. Specifically I'm hoping to run them on my Mavic MA3's.
Anybody have any experience with this combination, or similar set ups?

Your question is lacking a very important information:
what width Hakkapelitta W106 do you have?
There are two widths Nokian Hakkapelitta W106: 700X45C and 700CX35C (47-622 and 37-622 respectively).
There is also a 47-559 Hakkapelitta W106.

I've been running the Hakka 106 in 35mm on Open Pro rims all winter. No problems (other than the fact that there's been exactly two days so far when I thought that I actually needed them...)

And hey, we're neighbors, so the reason I haven't mounted them yet is just that, there have been 2 days so far this year which they might have been necessary and I stuck to the road tires. So I'm waiting for winter to show up before i committ to the studs. The way this winter is going it feels like I may never find out. Thanks.

Update:
The Nokians W106 35mm mounted easily and are performing very well on the MA-3 rims. Performance-wise they're amazing on the ice and hardpack. It's really fun and it's less stressful to be able to ride with a measure of confidence. I gotta say though, I ride a single speed, and the performance/speed hit on dry pavement is major, they are loud and slow. But the trade off is safety and confidence and it has turned my commute back into workout.
