Build Q: Cranks THEN BB?

I am trying to figure out what bottom bracket to get for my Redline - do I choose a crank set first and then buy a bottom bracket that has a sufficiently wide spindle to accomodate the cranks?

Yeah, and make sure the spindle is the right length so that your chainline is correct.

Sheldon Brown has a great chart and detailed explanation of how to measure for chainline at the Harris Cyclery website.
