what are you wondering about? Your question isn't about a contentious issue so I don't think you're a troll, but you don't seem to know (or at least, haven't remotely explained) what and why you're asking. Have at it, tiger.

If you have to ask go with LX. I have two LX cranksets w/ outboard bearing BB and I couldn't be happier with them. Then again I don't race, but I don't think you do either.
Put the difference in price into some nice wheels.

I had the LX but had to replace it when it failed, and now have the XT. Here's what I observed so far; the XT cost more, it's lighter and it lasts longer then the LX.

i had an lx for over 10 years with no problems.
my new build has an xt, because i was spending a bit of money on it.
lx is fine, xt if you can justify the expense over the lx

I don't mean to say that the question is illegitimate (I also think about the differences between components and where they matter, where they don't), but that the question is ill-asked. The subject line says "LX or XT crankset?" The OP asks if people have experience with either crankset. There's a question in there somewhere, but the problem is that there's at least 17 possible questions in there, and the OP gave us no idea of his situation, what he's looking to build, what his concerns are, etc. He'll still get a fair bit of data from responses to his post, but it would be a lot easier for us to offer helpful answers if he'd put just an extra minute and slightly increased amounts of thought into his post.

Is XTR worth the major cost difference between it and XT or LX? Is Dura Ace worth the big cost difference over Ultegra or even 105? Why pay a big premium for Campy Record over Chorus or even Centaur?
The differences are weight, sometimes durability and always "snob appeal", even if the last is only seen by the owner. It's your money, buy what makes you happy.
