alternative fender mounting? (see pic)

hi. ive nearly completed my bike (which ive dubbed the deathstar). i still need to get the fenders and rack on. here is a pic of the front fork (w/ cdale headshock):

as you can see, i am trying to mount an sks fender on the front of the fork, since there is no place to bolt it to the back. the problem is that the bracket pushes out the bolt far enough to rub on the brake cable. any ideas how to solve this?

question#2: i think i am missing a washer or two for the pictured bolt on my brake. do you think it is safe as is? i forget how it is supposed to look.. whats missing exactly? (all thats there currently is.. to the left nothing..to the right, that spacer and the nut)

The canti brake's cable hanger is bolted to the fork, right? And you used the same bolt for the fender?
I'd just file 2-3mm off the lower part of the hanger thingie. (front, not back...)

I'd not be comfortable removing material from the cable hanger.

How about using a flat head screw and running a countersink into the fender bracket?

countersink? not sure i know what that is or what itd look like.

what about an option that avoided relying on the cable hanger? as it is, the fender loses some coverage since it has to be mounted further forward than normal..

im at a loss for how to do that, though. :scratches head and awaits further direction from forum:

it doesnt fit.. i could grind off the sides of the fender bracket to make it fit, but wouldnt this essentially be same? i mean it would still make the bolt head protrude just as far.

oh- and does that cable bolt look right? cant figure out if im missing a piece (either i lost it or it never existed).

A countersink is a tool, like a drill bit, that bevels the hole to accept the cone shape of a flat head screw's head. You can use a (correct sized) drill bit if you're very careful.

You cannot use a different cable hanger, like one mounted on the steerer tube under the stem, because of the headshock. The cable tension would fluctuate as the shock compresses, that's why C'dale used this type on your bike.

Your cable hanger/bolt arrangement looks unusual but sound. What type of cantis do you have?

Also we need full photos of the Deathstar...

cantis are avid shorty 4s.. how is it supposed to look?

deathstar picture... ahh ok i was holding out till i have everything perfect. here it is sans some bits (fenders bottle cages, rack). i am thinking about getting some yellow bartape and then shellacing it for a gradient effect from yello-orange to a bright fire-red at the drops.

specs:
campy record ergopower levers
dura ace cranks
t.a. alize chain rings 49/38
xtr derailleur (with a jtek shiftmate, so the campy levers can shift it)
xt mtb cassette 11-32
ultegra front derailleur
105 bb
old beat to death time atac pedals
record aero seat post
brooks saddle
mavic xp33 rims and ultegra hubs

Avids come with a quite different straddle cable, in fact using one of theirs (or like theirs) may solve your problem as there is no bolt at the Y making them more compact. Be sure to get the longest one to give proper clearance for the fender. Their sizes are designated by letters, I think you want the "B" length. Plus, Avid OEM straddle cables are black with black coated cables, They'd compliment the Deathstar nicely!

(edited for clarity)
