I just bought a stem converter... it doesn't fit.

I bought one of those nashbar quill to threadless stem converters thinking it would fit my into the steerer tube just like the ad said. It doesn't, it's way too big. Now what do I do? I had no idea there were different sized diameters for quill stems. Is there somewhere I can buy one that will fit?

That 1" converter will not fit in your old French bike if that's what you're trying to do. (I'm assuming this from the signature of bikes you have listed)

I copied this from the product description. "Specify Diameter: 22.2mm, for 1 Forks or 25.4mm for 1 1/8 Forks." Maybe you have a 1" steerer tube and got a 1 1/8" from Nashbar. I also noticed that they only have the 1 1/8" in stock and available.

If it is for an old french frame, and you have the 1" adapter, you can sand it down in about 30 minutes to where it will fit. I have done that to two of my french frames.

You bought a 1-1/8". Their description is a little misleading. Send it back, get a refund, and buy the profile design model (sold on eBay for ~ $15 delivered). It'll work. Make sure you know what size stem you will be using. If 1 1-8", buy the one that says 1" to 1-1/8", or 1" to 1" if using a 1" stem. Do not buy the 1-1/8" to 1-1/8".

If I can find it amongst my parts bin, I had an older Schwinn frame that 1" stem adapter did not fit but found one that was made for that size. Sounds like what your looking for. They do make em, just rare a hens teeth.

TriZone (http://www.tri-zone.com) has the 1" version for $9.95 in stock. Nashbar told me a couple of weeks ago that it would be late April before they had them back in stock.

Ok, turns out I need the 1", not the 1 1/8" I bought. Easy fix.
