BB spindle length for 80's SR double

...the crankset came off of a Univega Nuovo Sport, but I don't have the spindle anymore and I never measured it. I need a new BB...does 122 sound right?

Okay...I found a spindle that works with the cranks, although they are a little farther out than is ideal. The spindle measures 128mm, and is the old assymetrical kind. I'm not sure, but I think the new Shimano cartridges are symmetrical....what size do I need?

You need to measure it with a caliper.

    ...?

It's a 128mm spindle, I don't know what you want me to tell you. If I measure it with calipers, it's still 128mm. It's not the one that matches the crankset....like I said it's a little too big. All I want is a recommendation for a cartridge BB spindle length.
