If it's only 1 spoke, I would loosen that spoke and ride GENTLY on it for the day. But you need a new rim ASAP.

My wheels started doing that a few months ago (many stress cracks started forming at the spoke holes) but I rode on them for a couple weeks until I got my new set built. I finally got around to disassembling the old wheels and found a nipple that had split in 4 places! I was playing with danger and so are you.

Can't help you with your girlfriend's health, but maybe Dr. Pete will chime in on that one. Seriously, hope she gets well soon.

Check out some of the other spokes. My bet is you're going to find spider web cracks radiating from some of the other spoke holes.

If it was my bike I wouldn't ride it farther away from my car than I was willing to walk back. Sorry.

Uh - how's your week going?
