What Happened?
Can someone tell me what happened?
I was riding my hybrid up a very steep hill, using my small chain ring and a 22-tooth cog. I shifted to the 26-tooth cog but lost too much momentum and had to quickly shift to the 34-tooth cog. The chain over-shifted the cog and wedged behind it; it was no fun to be unclipping as I rolled backward.
At first I wondered if my limiting screw needed adjusting, but the chain shifted in and out of the large cog perfectly during the rest of the ride. I couldn't make it over-shift. Did I flex my wheel enough to make the chain over-shift, or will a poorly adjusted limiting screw affect shifting only under certain conditions?

Have someone hold up the back of the bike and then, while pedaling the bike with your hand, try to shift the der by reaching back there and shifting it over with your thumb to see if it tries to shift off. Often the shifter won't push it off unless you are really torking on it even if the screw is off.

Thanks, Rev., I'll try that.
