Is it just my fat butt or....
Is there something wrong with the bearings in my crankset (nomenclature?).... I have an old Skykomish Mtn Bike (made by roadmaster for Costco..). When I pedal, I hear this creaking squeeking noise coming from the pedal bearings.... I havent ridden the bike in about 2 years, and other than some ugly storage and handeling marks, its in pretty good shape.... Are noises from the bearings in bikes normal? I realy don't remember .
Also, There is play (front to back) in the steering head... about 1/8 inch... Nothing major, but kinda noticable...
I realy just want to make sure the bike isnt going to blow up on me on the way to school this summer (sold my truck, and am trying to save some $)...
Apreciate it
Billy

Both pedals and headset sound like they are loose/maladjusted. You may not get dumped on the pavement but if you keep riding without getting them repaired pronto they can rapidly turn into scrap. I know you are trying to save money but not fixing those particular problems is like not going to the Emergency Ward when you have searing chest pains.

Gas Turbine Systems tech in the Navy and then became a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic for the Army working on M1 Abrams tanks with gas turbine engine. I started out working on just the power pack but qualified on all systems after a few years. After retirement I just ride and wrench bicycles.
