    Phil Bottom Brackets

I have a question about the spindle on PW BBs. It's explained HERE, but basically I want to know if the extra 5mm on the driveside of the spindle is the "adjustment room" that Phil BBs are supposed to have.

Does anyone have a Phil BB?

I don't have one but this is my understanding. The entire unit can slide from side to side because the cups fit inside the bb shell to hold the cartridge in place. If you move it 5mm to one side you lose 5mm on the other. This is why a thread lock is needed for Phil bottom brackets.

The bottom bracket cartridge itself is held in place by two threaded rings The rings, or cups can be adjusted, which in turn adjusts the position of the cartridge. The 5mm adjustment is a bit optimistic, but it's within the realm of possibilities.

From you earlier post it sounds like you've got an asymmetric bottom bracket, the spindle being longer on one side then the other. You can comp a bit when you install it.

If you've still got questions, email PW directly, their quite good about customer support.
This is Africa, 1943. War spits out its violence overhead and the sandy graveyard swallows it up. Her name is King Nine, B-25, medium bomber, Twelfth Air Force. On a hot, still morning she took off from Tunisia to bomb the southern tip of Italy. An errant piece of flak tore a hole in a wing tank and, like a wounded bird, this is where she landed, not to return on this day, or any other day.

    Phil BB

Yes and yes. 1/2 cm is within the realm. The beauty of Phil.
