brake lever slack during engagement
 
I notice that for my rear brake lever ( durace) when i engage/pull them there seems to be free play ( slack ) for a little distance before i can engage feel the cable pull... feels like its loose? but i may wrong.. anyone knows how to solve this problem?

There could be a kink in the cable near the cable-hook inside the lever thus not allowing the end to fully retract. When you pull on the lever, you eventually engage the cable end and start pulling the cable. I suppose another problem might be that the return spring in the lever is broken or is too loose or has become unseated. You might also want to check out Shimano's installation/service instructions or the exploded diagram if I'm not making sense.

Hi, I have the same problem. Weird thing is if I brake using the bar-top lever, the lever on the drops loses its slack. Any idea why?
