What lube works the best??
 

White Lightning claims to make your components shed dirt so you'll "never have to lube again". Sounds a little far fetched to me. Anyone have experience with this lube? Are there others out there that are really effective products?

I never liked WL. It got all gummed up, ran dry fast and is no good in rain for sure. For dry lube, I prefer Pedro's Ice Wax. For road bikes in dry weather I like Boeshield T9 which is somewhat self cleaning. For wet weather conditions, I like Wrench Force Slippery Spray.

Pedro's extra dry for the most part, if its really going to be muddy, Pedro's SYN lube.

But there are lots of good things out there. Each bike shop swears by a different product it seems.

I have tried many and keep going back to triflow. It can be kind of messy but it lubes great, cleans easy, and is cheap.

I've found Pro Link to be the best of all the lubes I've tried. Kind of smelly when applied, but it works great.

Thanks for the info. I found Pedros products at a shop near my house. It is pretty much all they carry. I'll keep an eye out for some of the others mentioned.

WL doesnt go onto a chain at temps below 12C. It just solidifies immediately.

I agree Pedro's Ice Wax is excellent look into Motorex dry lube as well very good product.

Has anyone had experience with
Rock and Roll lubes?
I hear good things about the products but
never any first hand experience.

For me, the best lube is condition specific.

In the springtime and winter my MTB gets finish line cross country or pedros synlube. Both are very tacky and don't wash off in streams or rain. In the summer and autumn I use a dry lube to repel dirt collection.

For my road bike I am old school and use teflon impregnated wax that I soak the chain in after melting it in a double boiler on my stove. I go 150-250 miles between applications and keep the chain and cogs shiny clean that way.

BTW, I stopped using WL and Krytech type lubes because of the build up of gunk. It drove me completely bonkers.

I have to be cheap here, I just go to Walmart or another mega store like that, I use the white lithium greas in an aerosol can. Works better than any of the other lubes out there. better used as a dry lube for the chain. may get a little messy, but I usually ride in losse dirt, so it's expected. as for the cables and or other stuff, believe it or not I find cooking spray works the best. but other than that I usually use finish line stuff. and definitely park grease in the bearings (the green stuff)

I have found a lube that works great on my road bike, can't comment on mtb off road, and is not overly expensive.

It is called CRC Industries, ultra-light 3-36. It's a dry film lube that is nontoxic, smells good and has yet to let me down! I spray it on after a ride untill my chain is soaked, then blot the excess by running the chain over a dry papertowel. Some times I do this 2 or three times to realy clean the chain. I use it on the cables, brake pivots, deraler bearings, well just anything that moves!

It has not let any part of my bike rust, although I don't ride in pouring rain if I can help it, or get dry on a ride. It takes a lot longer to dry out than some bike products. I tried Raceday and White Lightning and hate them, due to the build up on my bike, and they clumped up on me unless I kept them very warm. Matter of fact the best use I have found for Raceday is for lead pellet lube for my air rifle!:rolleyes:
