Will Shiftmate save the day
Bought a set of Fulcrum 3 wheels from a DA, and I do not mean Dura Ace, seller on scambay who assured me the wheel was Shimano 9 speed compatible. Well the wheel is here and it has a 10 speed only hub.
Reading the Jtek Shiftmate site it looks like they have a model that will work but I have some questions.
Setup would be all Shimano with 9 speed brifters and rear der. and 10 speed cassette.
Assume the chain will have to be 10 speed version? And with 10 gears in the back, which will you loose use of? Or do you remove a cog and replace with a spacer? Top or bottom would be my guess. I was going to run a 50/34 in the front and 12/25 in the rear.
Any input would be appreciated.

Just a guess but I would think the issue is that you only have 9 positions on your brifter, so it's up to you which cog you want ignored. If the fiirst brifter position is on the second cog, you're using 2-10, if on the smallest, 1-9.
And for Fioiri, Shimano now makes 10 speed only hubs with larger splines. Re: cogs were digging into the smaller splines on freehubs made of lightweight materials.
10 speed chain may not shift on your 9 speed chainrings as well as the 9 speed chain. I would try your 9s on the setup and see if it's noisy. If so, change the chain.
Can you get an 11-25 and limit out the 11, or a 12-27 and limit out the 27, or do you already own the cassette?

And Fiori's answer is exactly what I got from the seller of the wheels. It is amazing that you own a $700 set of wheels and not know what cassette it will take.

I think this is not just an issue of limiting out either end of a 10-spd cassette to achieve 9spd. The cog spacing of a 10 spd is narrower than a 9-spd, hence the need for a narrower chain. Consequently I would think that the cable pull of your 9 spd shifter would move your derailleur a greater distance, than a 10-spd shifter per click.

A cassette 105 level and the shiftmate are going to be at least $100 from what I have found on the net.
IRD has a nice 11-27 10 speed cassette but it is $110!
