Chain dropping off

Biking today, had my chain fall off the when shifting to the smallest front gear. Happened a few times. Somebody helped me get it back on - said I needed to lube up my chain. Do you think this should fix the problem (ie is this what happens when the chain is dry) or should I bring my bike in to the shop? Went for a very long ride yesterday with no problems. Thanks a lot.

Sounds like the front derailleur's inner limit stop screw need a bit of adjusting. A dry chain is noisy but shouldn't cause the dropping you experienced.

Thanks!

Wow, quick replies. I was surprised that I had no problems on my long ride yesterday, and only started having trouble on my short spin today.

You probably weren't using the small chain ring on your "long" ride.
