    Chain width ?

I had some chains in my drawer and could not remember which ones were 8 or 9 speed chains. Took out my caliper and could not get a significant difference from any to figure it out.

Where should I have measured and what should I have come up with for 8 or 9?

I curious what the actual dimensions are too.
I would guess both inside the links and overall width would both be pertinent.

pin width is what you want to measure. 8 spd is 7.4mm and 9 spd is 6.9mm

Sorry to have to ask this.
But is that the width of the link at the pin, which is the outer link plates vs the inner ones. Or the actual length of the "pin" itself?
