straight bar shifter question
I have a Trek 7.6 FX compact double crankset 50-36 with a replacement 11-32 rear cog to help me with the many hills around here. It might of been better to get a bike with a triple, but that is water under the bridge, and I'm not planning to change from a double at this point. Plus it seems I get to claim "bike cred", maybe not as much as a fixie, but way more than those triple users/losers ;)
My question is. What the heck is all that fancy-smancy shifter stuff (Shimano R440) doing on my left hand handlebar if all I'm doing is basically selecting "high" or "low". I mean if I'm on the big gear, the only other option to shift to is the low one. What about a simple toggle lever? Toggle to go high if low, toggle to go low if high. Is there an shifter designed just for double crank duty? I think I've heard something about SRAM offering a shifter that operates like this? |
