Bicycle Cleaning & Maintenance Service

Hello all you keen cyclists.

I am doing a reserach project into servicing and cleaning bikes in the big major cities. i am very keen to know where all of you have your cherished bikes cleaned and serviced, do you do them by yourselves or get a specialist shops to do the necessary work?

Also does anyone know of any specially produced bike washes? (similar to a coin-op car wash>?

Or do none of you really bother maintaining & cleaning bicycles as they're not as appreciated as cars?

i look forward to your discussions...anything welcome about cleaning and servicing of bicycles.

thanks - Arif

I clean my bike and do most maintence myself. Most bike shops I know of will do maintence work, but I haven't heard of one doing cleaning.

I'm not sure what you mean by that question. Not every car is well maintained. I think generally if someone takes care of their car, they will take care of their bike too. If someone neglects their car, they will tend to neglect their bikes.

I do all of my own maintanence and cleaning.

In the US, all real bike shops (as opposed to X-Marts, Big Box stores and general sporting goods stores that happen to sell bikes) do a full range of maintanence and will clean bikes as a needed part of general maintainence work. I do not know of any specialty shops that only do cleaning.

I am aware of a couple of businesses that accompany some week-long supported tours in this country. (GOBA in Ohio for example) For a fee, they do daily cleaning and lubrication service for the riders that signup with them but this is a limited and specialty service only for those tours.
