I just bought a Park pedal wrench and it has quiet a bit of play in it, is this normal? I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back but it seems like enough play to damage the pedal faces. I use their cone wreches all the time but this just seems like a little much.

Last time I saw a Park pedal wrench it had two fittings. Use the smallest one that fits. Some play is normal, should not be a problem. (ex bicycle mechanic and shop supervisor).

One side is 15mm and the other is 9/16. I am just not used to there being play with the Park wrenches. I guess I will just use it and see what happens.

Yeah, there's play in them. Don't know why, but the only time you'd really worry is if the metal isn't hard. With a wrench that's significantly wider than the hex flats you get high pressure at the points of contact. Not so bad on the nuts, but on wrenches it can cause flaring. Fortunately the Park wrench is very hard. The one I know that's heavily used shows no evidence of flaring.

I have the Park wrench, and although I have had no issues with it, I still prefer the Pedro's Equalizer Pro wrench for ergonomics, leverage and longevity. 1/2" cranks come along so rarely that the Park goes largely unused.

1/2" or 9/16" refers to the spindle size, the part that screws into the crank arm. Every pedal for the last 25 years or so has had 15mm wrench flats on it or a 6mm or 8mm hex slot on the backside of the spindle. Every Park Tool pedal wrench I've ever used has been a high quality piece that fits perfectly.

I have a cyclepro. Fits every single pedal I have come across with no slack. It also has a bend in it to clear the crank arm. Nice tool!,,,,BD

Seems to be a rare one too, as I couldn't find a picture of it, lol.
