Front Fork Measurement

If I am measuring the front fork width do I measure from the outside or inside of the dropouts?

Sorry for the stupid/obvious question.

Bikes: 2008 Novara Randonee - love it. Would have more bikes if I had time to ride them all. Previous bikes: 1968 Motobecane Mirage, 1972 Moto Grand Jubilee (my fav), Jackson Rake 16, 1983 C'dale ST500.

inside of the dropout faces, because that is where the locknuts of the hub sit and it is that measurement that is the width of a hub.
