rear wheel doesn't turn

Hi, wonder if some of you can shed some light on this.

it's a shimano 10 speed index system, the gears change as normal, problem is, all of a sudden if I'm on the bike or hold the back tyre while turning the peddles the wheel doesn't move, if I let the wheel go it turns, though not as strongly as it should.

Any ideas?

Bad freehub body. Either it's dirty and gummed up inside or the pawls are chipped or broken. You will have to disassemble the hub, remove the freehub body and try to lube it with light oil to see if that cleans it out and gets it working properly. Otherwise you need a replacement body.

See www.parktool.com for details.

If you aren't familiar with this repair, this is a good one to let your LBS handle.
