wireless computer quit on me

It shows a display but apparently isn't receiving a signal. I changed the battery in the sensor but still no readings. Any ideas? One ride it's working, the next it isn't.

Magnet/sensor both still intact and properly aligned??

Is there an "all reset" button (often needs to be pushed with a paper clip end) somewhere on the head unit that you can try? If not, perhaps removing the battery from the head unit, then re-inserting it will jump start it.

Yep, everything is still intact. I'll give your other suggestions a try and report back. Thanks.

Where you work, any chance they have a door that opens with card readers (the RF kind, not the magnetic strip kind). I've found that my computer goes crazy near it. That should help determine whether it's the sending unit or the receiver pretty quick.

If you don't have access to such a reader, for diagnosing you may want to take everything off the bike. Lay the receiver on the ground. Hold the transmitter in your hand and sit over the receiver so the receiver and transmitter are close to each other (within a foot should be OK). Hold the magnet in your other hand and move it back and forth over the transmitter. You may have to do it relatively fast and keep them close together, but it should give a reading if everything's working.

If the battery's OK, probably what's happened is the thing's gotten slightly out of alignment. The magnet and sensor have to be pretty close together - it can look perfect and not be working. And since we know yours isn't working despite a new battery, that'd be my guess.

Just because your head unit has a display that does not mean it does not need a new battery. Those little button batteries need replacing frequently and, more often than not, problems usually go away with a new battery.

First chance I get, I'll try a new battery in the main unit.

While on the subject, I may just go back to a wired computer. This isn't the first time I've had a problem with a wireless computer. As I recall, cold temps were a problem too.

I'd go back to wired. It takes just a bit of thought to route a wired computer well, it's more reliable, and takes less batteries.

If you need a take on how reliable wireless technology is: "Can you hear me now?"

I tried new batteries in both senor and receiver, checked the magnet, checked the magnet/sensor position a bunch of times, reset the main unit, bought a wired Cateye 5 function computer, now have a working computer. No more wireless for me.

slide the head unit off clean the contacts with alcohol and a cotton swab on both the head unit and the mount. Reinstall the head unit and see if it will work then...........

I am going to bank on your words, and replace the battery, hope it cures my problem.
I do wish to ask though, what are you basing your advice on?
Are bike computers little battery eaters?

If the computer cycles thru the functions then it is OK(Barring some bizarre solid state problem)

Assuming the computer is not a Sigma*, hold it close to the transmitter on the fork and cycle the magnet back and forth. If the magnet is within 2mm and passes the trans. at the right point(line on the trans) and the computer does not read, you have a bad trans. battery or if the battery has been replaced, you have a bad transmitter.

*Sigma has a seperate reciever that the computer fits in(Or did, they may have finally moved away from that).

It was worth a shot but that didn't work either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

We have not carried Sigma in a long time. If they still use the seperate reciever cradle, you will need to place it close the the trans. with the computer in it. The reciever has a seperate battery, and I think there was an LED on the front with a button to wakeup the reciever. The LED would flash when you pressed the button.

If you have replaced the battery in the computer it could be set up for manual start(TT) some computers will not read anything in this mode unless the timer is switched on Auto start is usually called RT
