Can I use a "non-integrated" fork with an integrated heaset?

I'm thinking about building a bike based on a roadie frame that requires an integrated 1 1/8" headset and some spare components in my parts bin. I have a spare 1 1/8" fork, but it is not specifically for integrated headsets. Will this combo work? If so, any disadvantages?

I'm not so sure. I believe you can use an integrated fork on a non-integrated system but not the other way around.

You can go either direction but they might look a bit off.

In your case, the crown of the fork will be smaller than the headtube diameter and thus will appear "inset". No problem with functionality though.

In the other direction, the crown will appear larger than the headtube and stick out. Again no performance problem.
