Going from a compact double to a triple, what's needed?
I have a friend that just bought a Felt F1X Cyclocross bike and wants to have the bike shop switch out the compact double crankset for a triple with a 30t small chainring. The shop says all they'll need to do is swap the crankset and FD.
I was under the impression this would also require changing the left brifter to get the 3rd shifting point and the RD to take up the chain slack while in the small ring. His brifters are 105 10spd and the RD is Ultegra 10spd. The supplied link has a pretty good image of the bike and further technical data.

Good news: 105 5600 brifters are still double/triple compatible.
He would also need: FD-5603, RD-5600-GS. He might get by with the double parts, but why look for trouble?

ST-5600 105 is front double/triple compatable. If the rear derailleur is a double then it May need to be changed for a longer cage length.

Thanks DMF and maddmaxx. It's great to hear that the brifters are good for double/triple duties.
Cheers,
Cheers,
