Bars slippng quill stem clamp. Solutions?
I have an older cinelli stem with the camping bolt on the bottom. I see no gap in the clamp like traditional quill stems. The bars are cinelli criteriums and have the numbers "65-42" on them. Anyway, the stem clamp is not able to handle my weight with I put pressure on the bars and the bars rotate downwards. I tried cranking the bolt down but they still slip and I was at the point just before stripping it. Any quick fix solutions?

How about a 1" strip of rubber from an old tube? The bars should have some kind of etching in the center for a friction fit.

Cut a shim out of a Coke can. On my rigid mountain bike I have bars with 30 degrees of sweep and ended up usin red Loctite to keep them from rotating on rough terrain.

Ok, just did the aluminum can. Holds tighter but still not dice. May hold under normal conditions but my bars still can't sustain my body weight (145#) without slipping. I have to try loctite next.

Are you sure the sizes match? There are 25.4 and 26 mm bars and stems (as well as a host of other, more exotic sizes).
Coke can should work.

Cinelli's old standard bar diameter was 26.4 mm and all of their stems were made to match that bar diameter. For the last number of years, Cinelli also made their bars in 26.0 mm, which almost everyone else used. It is possible you have a 26.0 mm bar in a 26.4 mm stem.
