Shimano 9 spd/10 spd compatibility

Currently running a 9speed cassette - am looking to do some upgrades from a Triple to a Compact Double. I'm planning on replacing:
- Crank
- Front Derailleur
- Rear Derailleur

Looking at Dura Ace for both Derailleurs (Crank is still a toss up between the Shimano Compact or the FSA SLK Compact)

Questions:
1. If I were to replace the 9 speed cassette with a 10 speed, would I then need to replace the shifters as well? Or could I keep my current shifters and simply not have a 10th click for the rear? (I'm guessing it's not all that simple)

2. If I were to keep the 9 speed cassette, would it be compatible with the Dura Ace front derailleur?

1. I checked and Jtek doesn't make a Shiftmate model to allow Shimano 9-speed shifters to operate with a Shimano 10-speed cassette so it seems you will need new shifters. The spacing is different enough between Shimano 9 and 10-speed cassettes (4.34 mm vs 3.95 mm) so shifting would be poor over most of the span.

2. It should be. Double cranks are very forgiving since most of the work is done by the derailleur limit screws. Triples are where the incompatibility and touchy set up occur.

Thanks.

RE: #1...that's what I assumed. Was going to go with a 10 speed cassette...but even if I went with Ultegra front/rear derailleurs instead of Dura Ace, still would blow my budget with the need to buy new shifters.

RE: #2...hoping so

You'll need new 10-speed shifters, and with D-A and Ultegra the 10-speed shifters are double or triple specific. If you buy double shifters you will not be able to convert back to a triple crank if you change your mind.

Your chainling will be quite a bit off from a triple to a double unles you replace the BB with a shorter spindle model (109.5mm).

Sorry, should clarify: crank AND bottom bracket are both being replaced...that much is certain.

Really, my main concern is whether or not the existing 9spd cassette...eventually I'll go with a 10spd, but just can't afford the necessary Shifters upgrade.
