brake mounting bolts for a road bike

Just trying to clear something up here. Wouldn't the mounting bolt for a front brake be longer than the bolt for the rear brake?

Wouldn't it be longer because it has to pass through the fork?

I'm pretty sure that I now the answer but I'm trying to straighten something out with an e-bay seller.

I bid on a Tiagra brake caliper and in the ad it was stated that it would be good for a fixie, so I bid on it since i need only one brake right now. I didn't notice that there was no mention of whether it was a front or rear brake. Yes it was stupid to bid before i knew that info. The seller says that the bolts on the front and rear are the same length which I don't think is true.

anyway, i will honor my bid if i win whether it is really a rear brake, at least it was only $10.

If I am wrong please let me know.

Thanks in advance

My 105 and Ultegra brakes are distinguishable by the length of the mounting
bolts. Steve

Yes the front brake bolt is a different length, but honestly considering it was only $10 doubt it is worth the headache to return.. YOu can get longer bolt for the other side to help compensate for the shorter bolt.

What happens usually is the seller will sell the rear caliper because she's using the front on her own fixie and has absolutely no use for the rear. Yes, the rear bolt is noticably shorter but any LBS can sell you a longer nut which will reach thru your fork crown.
