Squeaky Disc Brakes!!! ARGHHHH!
I have the Avid 2002 Mountain Ball Bearing Disc brakes and they squeak like mad. Being metal on metal I realize that they will squeak from time to time. But this is frame amplified horror! Any tips on reducing the sound and also calibrating the pads to reduce rub?

do they squeak when the brakes are applied or when there not?
if its doing it when there are not applied then it sounds like your pads are rubbing the disc/rotor due to a warped/bent rotor or a missaligned caliper.
i cant halp you with adjustments as i dont have avids, i have Hayes hydros and they use a different mounting method.

When they are applied they squeak. They squeak when not applied though which is what is driving me nuts. I've adjusted the calipers 3 times in the past week and they go back to squeaking after about 10 brake pulls. I even followed the directions from Avid but to no avail. The rotor is bolted in firmly, and is not bent at all. It's the damn calipers!!!!!!!!!

Try wiping down the rotor with rubbing alcohol. Check to see if you pads are contaminated. (deep dark discolouring on the pad face)...Squeeling is usually caused by these two things.

You might also try "facing" the tabs where the calipers mount to your frame and fork. Paint on the mounting surfaces can keep the caliper from making full contact with the metal and vibration, a.k.a. squealing, can occur if these surfaces are not contacting each other firmly. Also are you sure you have the springs in properly with the pads? Those can rub the rotor if they are not installed properly or if they are bent.
