Jamis Coda Drivetrain
Very recently purchased a Jamis Coda at my LBS. After 2 days, a pedal fell out under normal riding circumstances and I was spun out into an accident. Went to another location of the same shop and they replaced the crankset (for what they claimed to result in a slightly better drivetrain - I think it's the most basic Shimano crankset, as opposed with the standard Jamis part), saying the mechanic who put the bike together was at fault. Upon going back for a routine 100mi adjust to the LBS where I bought the bike, they said that the mechanic should have replaced the front der'r with something that would fit the new crankset better and shorten the chain. My question is, am i being ripped off here? Is there a fundamental difference/benefit/downside to having a smaller crankset (and smaller chain, different front der)? Bike is now 3 weeks old, just over 100mi.
Thanks so so much!!

a pedal fell out
Without knowing what components were originally on the bike, and what is on there now, it is impossible to answer the question.
You shouldn't have to pay for any of the repairs. If you don't have to pay, how could you be getting ripped off?

I did not have to pay for any of the repairs, but I had different parts (crankset, and now possibly a FD to match the new smaller size) put on the bike. The pedal fell out from the crank and wrecked the hole where a pedal would be inserted into the crank.
Thanks very much for your reply.
