leftovers

I got a bike, and it was in a box, and it needed partial assembly by me. I put the bike together, and it is working fine. However, I have some leftover parts. Please let me know what they are for.

***gulp*** left-over parts...

sorry I can't be of more help. I assembled 3 bikes in my day and cannot remember any one of them having parts that look specifically like those.

Those look like pieces that were used by some kind of automated assembly process. Unless you see instructions that specifically pertain to them in the manual, don't worry about them.

The Noodle looks like a Brake Part.

The others look like they are the SHIM piece that you install in Road Brake levers to adjust for reach for smaller hands.

Might be helpful to tell us what kind of bike(road or mt.) you are working with. Looks to me like the shim thing is correct but I would be surprised that they were included with a factory bike. Brand may also shed some light on things.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. From ang1sgt's comment, I figured out that the four things on the left are brake lever adjusters that I don't need.

That part in the middle looks like it is for linear pull brakes, but my bike has regular cantilever brakes. I cannot figure out what it is for.

And, that "S" shaped thing. What is it? Shimano propaganda?

The bike is a Windsor Tourist that I ordered from BikesDirect. The Bike works great without those parts.

If you take something apart and put back together enough times, eventually you will have 2 of them .

The "noodle" looking thing looks like it's used where a cable makes a bend around a tube.

The noodle thing may just be packing material, used to protect something. Same with the S, but you could probably use it to keep two der/brake cables together.. although I don't know why you would.

The noodle is used in the steerer-mounted brake cable hanger to help the cable make what can be a fairly sharp corner. If the geometry of your stem is such that you can make that bend reasonably with the cable housing alone, you probably don't need to use it.

I'd be happy to take them off your hands . PM me if you're feeling generous.

Bikes: One brand-less build-up, and a Connondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra Disc. A nicer bike than I need, but it was a good deal, so... ;-)

Nope, it's just for keeping the cables neat and tidy. Sometimes they're handy.

Yup...that was my guess, too. Here's one shown with the sort of hanger it would go into:
