A shot in the dark here but it never hurts to ask, right? I have a Trek 7.3 FX that's about 6 weeks old. It probably has less than 250 miles on it. Last week it started ticking only while I'm cranking. It's a single tick per rotation of the crank and at first it seemed to do it when the crank was in the same position but now it seems to be moving around. I'm guessing it's either the chain or front derailleur, any thoughts? I checked for sticky links by running the chain backwards but it seemed fine.

If it's only a few weeks old take it back to the shop and let them deal with it. It should be covered under warranty and any work that you do could possibly void that warranty. It could be a loose crank bolt, chainring bolts, drivetrain alignment, etc but the shop should handle this for you. It isn't uncommon for a new bike to suffer problems like this as it's going through the break in period so it's probably a minor thing.

Look to see if the extra front derailleur cable is too long or sticking out at too low of an angle and ticking against the crank arm. The angle of that extra bit changes depending on what front chainring you're in. Bend it back to make sure it clears in all settings.

If you've got cadence on your computer the magnet could also be ticking against the sensor.

Neither of those really fit with the "seems to be moving around" part of the problem, but it wouldn't hurt to check.
