Triple to Double help

I'll as because I can't find this specific question with answers.

I've got a 2006 Felt F80 (specs:https://www.feltracing.com/06/06_bikes/f80/spec.html) with an FSA triple and 105 brake/shifters, FD and RD. Currently it's stock and I want to put a double up front. Will I have to change the BB also? As far as I can tell the FD should be fine but correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I think the RD will be fine because the double only has 1 tooth more (from 52 to 53 teeth) so chain tension shouldn't be an issue. I know there are a bunch of do it yourself sites out there so if you could recommend some with pics I would appreciate it.

Yes, you will need a new crank and BB. The Park Tool page will have pictures.

Personally, I think this swap is a waste of time and would not bother with the expense or hassle. Best of luck.

I'm looking into things to cut down on weight. I'm still trying to decide if it's worth putting new parts on here and using my old parts to build a commuter or just SS this one and buy a better bike instead of upgrade this one. thanks though.

That third ring does not weigh all that much, so this may not be your best route for the $ spent. I would look at nicer wheels if you want to make a more meaningful alteration to the weight and ride of your bike.

yeah I have been looking at Soul wheels. Going from 1900 to 1400 grams will be a nice change.

According to weighteeenies, the crank swap will save 100-150g. Not worth it.

You can save 50 of those grams just by removing the granny ring and it's bolts and resetting the inner limit screw. I agree, the crank switch is not a cost-effective change.

Any chance this is a "social upgrade"? I.e. your riding buddies make fun of you for riding a triple?

I don't really have "riding buddies." I'm about to move from Barbados to Africa so everything is going to change for me. Sadly I found out about where I'm going and my bike my live in a box for a year. All upgrades will be put on hold.

It's a big huge secret!! I can't tell or you would know where to find me. What if you were an internet stalker?!?

Then I guess I'd have company in Africa wouldn't I? I'm going to Nouakchott, Mauritania for a year.
