Help With Choosing

I've decided to start upgrading my Drive-Train on my 1600, but I know little to nothing about compatibility. So far, I've only put a Dura-Ace chain on (really, really, quiet). Now, I've been contemplating about getting either an Ultegra FD or an Ultegra crankset. The FD would be easy since my LBS carries them and can help me choose the right one. However, I really would like a crankset, and my LBS doesn't carry cranks higher than 105. So....

I'd like to get a double crankset, but I'm nto sure what model I'd have to get.

a) Would I have to buy a new bottom bracket, or would it work with my 105 BB?
b) What model would I have to get?
c) Would this work? Ebay #270051924551
I'm liking the price, but there's no model number. Also, it's nine speed. My cassete is 10spd, so I'm not sure how that'll go down. But, some parts are compatible, IE. Dura-Ace 10spd chain can go on a 9spd

What do you have on the bike now? Why do you want to upgrade?

I think 1600 has, well, this stuff, unless hiw is older. Certainly usable stuff.

I have the 2007 model.

Why do I want to upgrade?

A) I like the way the Ultegra cranks look.
B) I'm testing the waters to see how much the shifting improves. I'm pleased with how quiet my new chain is.

What component group do you have on it?

If it's 105, you would see very little - if any - improvement. The difference is in weight and finish, not in function.

105/ultegra

I'm mostly interested in the look of it.

But, if it lasted longer that'd be nice. But the question is, can I put the ebay (270051924551) thing I listed on without getting a new BB?

If I am not mistaken, the 2007 Trek 1600 uses an outboard bearing BB and the Ebay model you are looking at is for an Octilink BB. This would require a new bb to install and would actually be a step down in components in terms of the BB. That is a nice crank but I would not change it out unless the 105 is causing problems or worn out. If you need a good home for the 105 and old BB, send me a PM and I will be happy to look after them for the next few thousand miles. Lets call it a beta test.

Well, thats no good.

I'm also looking at some Campy stuff to.

I found a Chorus crankset for $75 and Record for $150 on Performance.

Thoughts on those? Could someone show me everything I'd need to get the Chorus or Record running, and how much it'd cost?

Ohhhh, choices.

Dura-Ace FD, $75. Compatable? And, Braze on vs. Clamp?
