mullti speed MB to single speed

Hi everyone. i recently broke the derailer on my peice of crap rhino mountain bike. at first i wanted to get a bmx bike, because i jump my bike alot. then i realized that the only reason that i wanted to get rid of my mountain bike, was because of the derailer, and the way it shifts gears when i land a large jump. i love the weight, and feel of the bike, so i have decided to convert it to a 1 speed bike. i have never really worked with bikes much, so i was wondering if anyone had any instructions, or reccomended parts. all help is appreciated.

    THanks,
    Parker

with the sheldon brown tips and this forum, you shouldn't have a problem converting. although you may not need the tensioner, start with a conversion kit, that has spacers and sprockets like the one at Performance for example:
    http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=5132
You'll need a chain tool & chainwhip and you may as well , hex wrenches, cassette/freewheel tool
I've done it and I love the ride.

you get it! a big BMX was the intention. built it from bits off of eBay/Craigs for under $300. Come up to SF, I'll let you ride it- its fast. 53/18, roughly 72 gear inches.

I built this one just for fun. It has horizontal droupouts, but I found the "magic gear" without much trouble. It was too small for me, so I sold it.
